Get in gear for Lulworth’s first off-road ride
21 Sep 2016On 25th September, the Lulworth Estate will welcome cyclists to its first ever off-road bike event, in association with British Cycling. During this unique 46km or 59km ride, cyclists can explore some of the most dramatic scenery in Dorset and experience parts of this private estate that aren’t normally accessible to the public.
The Lulworth Estate extends over 12,000 acres (20 square miles) of the south Dorset countryside, including 5 miles of the Jurassic Coast and internationally renowned landmarks such as Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Lulworth Castle. Lulworth’s estate pedigree can go back as far as Doomsday times in the 11th century and beyond, and, since 1641, it has been owned and managed by the Weld family.
Organiser Stephen Muncaster, of Experience Lulworth Outdoors, says: “Lulworth has some superb off-road riding so we’re thrilled to be able to open them up to passionate riders in this inaugural event. It’s a challenging route with some punishing hills, but riders will be more than rewarded with fast-flowing descents, awesome views of the Jurassic Coast, wildflower meadows and C18th follies.”
Online entry is now available through British Cycling. Entrants must be over 16, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Adult entry: £30. U18’s: £25. Water stops and mobile mechanical support is provided.
